The guy who goes by "1969Camaro" on BAT certainly displays his lack of knowledge by his snarky comments. Comes across as a bit of a douchebag when the folks who really know the car's story chime in!

Yeah you are right. Probably looking at close to $1mm given the rarity and provenance.

bloody hell.
original. unrestored gt. apart from mechanical maintenance. is there another one that is like that? most have been restored back to in period condition. + its the homologation test car owned by the factory. priceless? who knows what it is worth. porsche should buy it it. if i am not mistaken its the one thing missing from their collection, a 14 race car from the period. they got every other damn race car they ever built. the crayon numbers written on it everywhere! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) owners comments about racing the car were great to read. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Super cool car and comments from the owner/seller. Sir Andy's link to PBase got me to see this detail on the rear body transmission mount. The seller mentions many reinforcement designs some of which have been kept for later GTs some which haven't.
Is this reinformecement typical to GTs, or was it discarded in the development process? It would be super cool to know more about all the mods and the ones not retained in the process. Good luck to the seller!, very nice piece of history! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) ![]() |

He says magneto in his one response. Like the young kids say “brah” that’s a twin plug dizzy not a magneto |

I was at the Lemans Classic when Bill ran it .. I was in the pits with a Corvette entry.. But enjoyed watching the GT in action, and him pitting 2 spots away.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)

anyone know if those radius rods on rear suspension are on any other GT?
pretty serious stuff going on there in suspension department with those. details photos are insane to trawl through. how great to see something that isn't artificially shiny and over-restored. |

The very early history of the car is interesting and rather cloudy:
"Initial sale: dealer PO = Portugal no options The Car was initially ordered by Portuguese Porsche Importer and distributor; Messrs AS Motors Sociedade, but was never accepted by the distributor. The car was deemed surplus to the needs of the Porsche Factory on October 1st 1970 and the sale authorized to the public. At this time, there are no known records or documents as to what the Porsche Factory did with this particular 914/6 from April 1970 until October 1970, nor from then until June 26th, 1971 When the Factory invoiced the car to Porsche/Audi Pacific for delivery to Bozzani Porsche-Audi Inc. of Monrovia, California. Bozzani’s Race and Sales Team Managers, Ritchie Ginther and Allan Johnson wrote a multi-page deficiency report to PORSCHE-AUDI of America that was processed through the Porsche Client Services Department in Germany. The report cited use and wear not commensurate with a new “un-raced” vehicle. At the time the report was written the mileage indicated less than 50kms. Johnson later related by phone on December 2nd and 10th, 2003 that upon arrival and inspection the car had clearly been tracked and possibly raced. There were scuffs on the floor pan and stone chips on the rocker, front valence, and all four wheel-arches indicating high speed on track use. The car had been purchased as a new “Race Car” without warranty or guarantee and the Porsche Factory would not compensate the distributor / selling dealer especially as the car was now nearly two years old. We can surmise that in the period between 1970 04 to 1971 06 the race department at Porsche converted the car to FIA Group 4 “GT” specifications. The original 901/36 motor became a 901/26 motor. Also the fender flares were added along with the GT suspension and racing Fuchs. According to Alan Johnson, it appears that the race department put the car to good use during the period. Final sale: Invoiced June 26th, 1971 Port of Entry: UA = Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, CA Distributor: Porsche/Audi Pacific a Division of VW Pacific, Inc., Culver City, CA Dealer: Bozzani Porsche/Audi Inc., Monrovia, CA In August of 1971 it was delivered to Bozzani Porsche-Audi Inc. of Monrovia, California. Alan Johnson then advertised the car in Auto Week/Competition Press in October - November of 1971. Charles W Grimes II of Tulsa, OK purchased the car Feb 10, 1972 Howard B De Haven of Tulsa, OK purchased the car August 22, 1985 upon the death of Charles Grimes William D Noon of San Diego, CA purchased the car Nov 11,2003 "Symbolic Motor Car Company". http://www.symbolicmotors.com Frank Gallogly of Lime Rock, CT purchased the car 2007" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So it appears that the car was never delivered to Portugal as intended, and at the time was just a stock 914/6. After the failed delivery it was converted to GT specifications at the Factory and used as a test mule. This was documented by Bozzani upon delivery. |

Funny, knew about that car for a long long time and knew the owner, could have purchased for 95,000 but was not on the official list so did not and gave the current seller all of the information so he could buy it

Beyond all of the various race mods, this very original car also provides a data point in the ongoing debate about the factory original underside finish. This car clearly shows a tan PVC undercoat with hints of body color overspray
I do not believe that Just because it is a GT there is any difference between this and a production car. |

Kinda crazy: The GT isn't even close to the most expensive auction currently underway from that same seller/broker.
