Anyone have experience with this bumber as far as fit and quality ?

It’s the Sierra Madre Porsche 914 GT Bumper

Working on fitting a GT style lower valance as part of an oil cooler, oil cooler shroud, and air exit and valance project. I have a chrome bumper, but it’s kind of beat up. Will require cutting, restoration and then re-chroming.

My rear bumper is chrome in excellent shape and both Bumper toppers are in very good shape.

Exploring black fiberglass front and rear bumpers instead. I bought the best GT front lower, fiberglass valance. I could find but it needs considerable fiberglass work. I want to avoid that process with bumpers.

Hi Todd - Hope all is well. Glad to see progress on your car.

For my bumper GT modification I took a slightly different approach. My front GT valance is steel, made by the shop that did my metal work. I mounted that to the car and created a template of the valance opening and sent that with my stock front metal bumper to Ben McFarland to have the bumper modified to match the valance. I think it came out very nice. The wrinkle was I sent it out to chrome and they did not do the best job. On my list of stuff to do is to pull the front bumper, maybe this winter, and send it out to a local (hopefully) chrome shop and have it re-chromed. It is always something, right?

Good luck with your project. Knowing the level of detail on your car, I am sure it will look outstanding. Michael (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ben is absolutely the guy to make a steel bumper. He’s done dozens of them.
Glass is glass. It always needs work. Even when they promise it’s plug and play. And it eventually cracks around the mounting holes.
Glass is fine for a track car but will always have compromises for a road car.
$500 is a bit pricey but that might just be the going rate today.

Ben did my front bumper as well and did an excellent job. I bought the Fiberglass lower valance from AIR and it needed all kinds of tweeking to get it to look right. I have a couple of front fiberglass bumpers to sell if you decide to go that route.
